I’m thankful this week for early morning workouts.
Can I say, 5am workouts rock my socks?!?! I used to wake-up around 6am many moons ago to workout before other jobs. I never thought I’d be able to when I started to work in a high school, wow, four years ago. 5am just seemed to daunting. Well, it’s working, so I’m sticking with it.
How do I deal with those mornings I just don’t want to get out of bed? Like this morning…
I set myself up for success every night.
I take out my workout clothes and order them in a pile from what has to go on first to last. This makes it a no-brainer to get dressed, especially when I’m cranky tired, it’s dark, it’s cold and I find a host of complaints that could derail my plans.
Then, I have my 1/2 cup of green juice ready in the fridge to toss back before I walk out. Next, my gym bag is set by the door, water filled and all.
And finally, my work lunch is all set in the fridge, so it’s one less item to worry about when I get home to shower and go to work.
It takes me 5 minutes to get up, dressed, drink and walk out the door.
As I drive to the gym, I pump myself up to workout, plan out my pre-workout, workout, and after workout process to get out in time. Then driving home I think about what I’m going to wear, my hair, and anything else I need to remember to do before work.
It is all working out perfectly! Except the nights I don’t feel like setting myself up for success, hmmm. I do it anyway, and just say – go, walk, if you don’t feel like doing ANYthing else tomorrow morning.
Now, in the spring, the clock will have to inch back to 4:45am or sooner when my weekday mileage picks up to longer runs. For now, I’m happy with 5am in the dark cold.
On another note, like my new running shoes? Merrell Barefoot Run Dash Gloves. At first, I wasn’t sure I liked them, as they provide a lot more sole to the bottom of my foot than I’m used to. After a week running in them, they are fabulous and I am proud to still be a mid-foot striker. No more heels for me, both kinds!
