The night started out simple enough. Our staff vs. another school’s staff in a charity flag football game. I was ready to go, although I know I’m not good at team sports anymore. I looked the part.
I brought Chris along, for which they let him play on our team. He was cracking jokes the entire time and having a ball with it all. My fellow colleagues appeared to take a liking to him. You can see the student support on our bleachers… there was none. The other side had about a quarter of the bleachers full with a marching band and everything. We’ve got to do better next year.
Then it happened. The moment I was hoping wouldn’t happen. I was bowled over by a very large tall man. I saw him approaching and tried to move out of the way, but he was running so fast toward me, he knocked my behind to the ground. I fell down to my knees, bent over, dizzy and then sat down. All I kept saying was, “are my ears bleeding? my ears feel like they’re bleeding. help me.”
Next thing I know, there are a bunch of people in my line of sight asking if I’m okay, if I know what time it is, and telling me that no, my ears were not bleeding, but my lip was. It took a few moments, but I was able to collect myself and walk off the field.
Score one for me… this is why I run solo and play individual sports. I’m no good at this team stuff.
I’m just so thankful it’s my lip and not my hips, knees, or feet. It might not be pretty, but at least I can still workout and run.
Another player from the other team was kind enough to get me ice at the snack stand. It was the last quarter of the game and I had had a great amount of playing time, so I didn’t miss out on anything. My jaw is still very sore and stiff, and my lip is something weird looking. I hope it clears up by Monday, otherwise all the students in school are going to be asking me about my battle wound. I told them I’d get hurt, ha.
I hope you enjoy the weekend and stay off the injured list. I’m going to do that from now on.
