Back to Running Before the New Year

After taking about a month off from running to get everything ready for the holiday season, I finally stepped back into running today! I was nervous it wouldn’t feel good, but it turned out well.

It’s about 15 degrees F here in NJ, so I opted to run on the treadmill. I ran a 45/15 ratio with a 5-minute warm up and cool down. The total running distance was about 2.25 miles, which wasn’t as hard as I anticipated it feeling.

I updated the bulletin board in front of my treadmill to help with indoor motivation. I added photos of myself with Jeff Galloway and from the races I ran in Atlantic City.

It helped!

I’m glad I finally convinced myself to get back to it before the big New Year holiday to come. My left hip and thigh muscles have been feeling wonky and I know it’s due to lack of exercise and being still overweight.

I signed up for a few big races this year, so no time can be wasted! I am going to focus on working out daily after school whether that means a run, lifting weights or stretching/yoga.

I’m excited to track this one goal of working out about 6 days a week, including my long run on the weekend, in the Running journal Chris gave me for Christmas.

I’ve always been happier to write down my workouts on paper than track online. Its easier to go through and look at and requires a little more reflection. Plus, I love this journal (can’t believe I didn’t find it sooner!) and I think collecting and filling them each year will be a lot of fun.

I used to track in notebooks, then I used online trackers for a while, and then went back to a blank notebook midway in 2017. I didn’t like to have to rewrite in the blank spaces the same data, so this journal will give me a good template. I will add all weekly workouts which will give me a good idea of how well I’m reaching my goals.

Happy New Year, a few days early!
