I’m trying to find a good format to share a log of my workouts and the fun from the week. I hope you find this breakdown fun to read. I am keeping a hand-written journal that includes a mix of Peloton workouts, outdoor workouts with my Apple watch, and family fun outdoors. I opted to go with paper, as my “stats” are all over the place with the various apps, devices, and general goals.
Monday: 10 core, 30 run + walk
I started out this week strong with my workouts. I was sore and tired, but I pushed through to do this after my 7.5 mile walk + run & 3 mile walk over the weekend.
Tuesday: lazy rest day
Everything hit me at once. I was tired. I was stressed. I took a rest day. It was supposed to be a XT day, so I just let that fly.
Wednesday: 4.25 miles walk outdoors with Rebecca
I was having a bad day and my friend happened to text me to go for a walk. We were distanced walking, apart from this photo, and typically we both wear neck buffs when we approach anyone on the trails or boardwalk. I needed to complete 45 min walk + run, or at least that time on my feet. I equate often miles at 10:00/pace to miles for the allotted time if I’m walking (so, this goal would’ve been 4.5 miles). So, this walk was just the right amount of distance, speed, time, and stress relief. I felt so much better afterward.
Thursday: family basketball
We spent the afternoon outdoors playing basketball. Chris and I haven’t played a whole lot of b-ball together much after having kids, but now we have our own b-ball net and our driveway was finally paved this past summer so we can enjoy some play on our home turf. This was actually a lot of fun, and while the kids didn’t want to come play at first, they ended up playing with us for over an hour after we just went outside without them!
Friday: rest day / tired
I knew this was going to be a rough week. It was a stressful workday. I was fried. I opted to just stretch and take it easy and focus on completing today’s run over the weekend (done on Sunday).
Saturday: 4 mile run + walk
I decided to try to wait out the rain, as I wasn’t motivated to get on the treadmill for this run. I waited just long enough before my weather app said it wouldn’t rain any longer and headed out in the misty drizzle. By the time I was finished, the sun was finally peeking through the clouds. A half hour later, it was sunny and gorgeous out. Oh well, at least it wasn’t raining on me while I was outdoors.
Sunday: 45 min run + walk
It’s funny how some days, I loathe the treadmill, and others I welcome it. Sunday was another rainy day, but I probably could’ve done this outdoors in the clouds before the rain came. Instead, I woke up and hit the treadmill before I could convince myself otherwise and did a nice workout with a fav peloton trainer. I was tired, I was sore, and my legs weren’t happy, but we did it and lived to tell you about it.
My third week was OK. It was a week where I hit a wall of being tired and stressed, but I felt better after my Sunday workout and more ready for the week ahead. I am planning to add in strength training and try some “split” workout days to make sure to keep strength workouts a part of my schedule. While this week was a step back it felt like, I think I needed it to move forward. My focus is “time on feet” as much as possible, and I did accomplish those goals this week.
My new mantra I’ve decided upon is “What if I can…” or “What if I do…” and that has helped me through a few drained moments. What if…
And next week, I should finally hit that 4-week body’s getting used to it phase and stat to feel more energized by it all.
What did you do this week?
